Dear Skin is a surreal psychological horror graphic novel about how humans react to things they don’t understand. Tawny, an eight year old girl with red hair and a cleft lip, lives with her Grandfather(Paw) off-grid in an isolated cabin deep in the woods in a nondescript location in America. One winter, they are out hunting, hungry and desperate for food. They stumble across a dead fawn in a bear trap, which is somehow still warm. They take it home, and when they start to skin it, they find a strange baby-like creature inside. Unwilling to eat it or throw it back out into the snow, they decide to keep it for one night to see what happens. When it wakes up the next day, they find it endearing in some way, and welcome it into their little family. Paw is hesitant, but Tawny is delighted to have a new friend to play with. As honey grows larger, so does the emotional distance between Paw and Tawny.
